  3. M is for…

    Fuji X series camera are well known for their amazing Auto capabilities. Auto ISO, Auto aperture, Auto shutter, Auto dynamic range, they’re all done so well.

    But I have become lazy, relying on these a bit too much for my liking. I sometimes find myself rushing a scene and not thinking about what I am taking knowing I can fix most exposure blips in Lightroom. Well no more!

    After reading the awesome blog post by Mark Carey about shooting in manual and other street photography tips I decided that I need to up my manual skills. I have been thrown off by odd lighting situations fooling my camera and need to become the master of those situations.

    Today was my first outing in M. There’s nothing fantastic on show but I have already felt the freedom it gives me. The first couple of weeks are going to be tough but I think I will be a better photographer in the end.

    None of the photos here have had an exposure adjustment in Lightroom.

  4. grideniz asked: I believe you're using an X100. Do you know any good synthetic leather cases for the X100? Where it would be sold is not important, I'll order it anyway. I'm sorry to bother you with this but it says "Ask me anything" :) Thanks.

    Hiya!
    Firstly thanks for looking at my work, I appreciate it. As far as a case goes I have no idea! I don’t use a case on my camera. I probably should but I don’t have much, if any, spare money so it’s a luxury. Also I don’t really want to spoil the awesome design.

  5. mrnje asked: hi there, just had a question in regards to the fuji vsco update. did you need to download anything, or does it update automatically? thank you in advance.

    Hi. You have to log in to VSCO’s site and download the pack you want to update. Simple really.

  6. VSCO Film 02 - Fuji update

    So the great people at VSCO have updated their 02 film pack to have Fuji profiles now. This now makes all their film packs fully compatible with the Fuji X series cameras.

    My black and white photos are all based on their Fuji Neopan 1600 preset from before the update so I was keen to try and recreate my preset using the new update. I’m not sure if I’m quite there (I may have started with the “-” version before) but it’s now 1am here and should really be in bed, but as I have only just found out about the update I just had to try it out on a few images. Pretty pleased so far! The Superia range are probably going to get used much more now than before.

    More to come when I have more time.

    1: My preset based on Neopan 1600

    2: Fuji Superia 1600

    3: My preset based on Neopan 1600

    4: Fuji Neopan 1600++

    5: Kodak Portra 400UC++

    6: Kodak Portra 160VC++

    7: Kodak Portra 400UC

    8: Fuji Superia 400+

    9: My preset based on Neopan 1600

    PS: You may have noticed that I have watermarked these images. That’s due to having a rather silly government!

    PAUL PRIDE

    We are back in the soggy South West of England, specifically Cheltenham. Paul’s street photographs are epic and manage to heroicise ordinary places and people. Paul’s website also has some great projects so make sure you have a butchers at it.

  9. I’ve had a great time here on Tumblr, the response I got to my Project 365 was beyond what I had hoped for but it’s time for a change.

    I have started a new site on Squarespace and have decided to move my blog too. Their interface and design is fantastic as is their support. I’m sure that it will work fine for me.

    Please make a note to check it out and return for regular visits. I will still post the occasional photo here but it will not be very often.

    Thanks for all your support!

  10. Sometimes I get too wrapped up trying to find the next great story to tell, that elusive photo which will “wow” people. It’s easy to shift focus from what really matters.
    My wife and daughter are everything to me. Without my wife I wouldn’t have a camera in my hand today. She has given me the courage to follow my own path and stop taking photos for other people. And, of course, she has given me the best gift a man could want. Not the Fuji X100s (it’s on the list though!) but my daughter Poppy. She is such a happy little soul and truly makes me laugh every day.
    My X100 may not focus the quickest and it often misses shots of Poppy as she moves around but it allows me to get fantastic memories of my daughter yet still allows me to be part of what’s happening, in the moment.
